However, what I left out, was that no matter what we do, we always try to incorporate a visit to the Battery Park City <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"parks (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/bpcparks.org\" target=\"_blank\">parks<\/a>! The parks are just across the street and a couple blocks away from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/financial-district-with-kids\/\">World Trade Center<\/a>, which makes it super convenient. There are huge grassy areas all along the river, beside the esplanade (river boardwalk). On the east side are a basketball court, handball courts, swings, a park house, and most important of all: the best playground in Manhattan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Granted we haven&#8217;t been to <em>ALL<\/em> of the playgrounds in Manhattan, but we have been to quite a few and this one wins out for several reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>It is large, with play areas fit for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and big kids!<\/li><li>There are sand pits, and a water feature in the summer.<\/li><li>It has a carousel! <\/li><li>There is a nice view looking out over the river.<\/li><li>It is near: grass for running around, food options right around the corner, and very important for extended play time- bathrooms.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/rockefeller-playground.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Rockefeller park in Battery Park City\" class=\"wp-image-5326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/rockefeller-playground.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/rockefeller-playground-240x320.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/rockefeller-playground-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/rockefeller-playground-655x873.jpg 655w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption>Rockefeller Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-carousel.jpg?fit=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"the carousel at rockefeller park\" class=\"wp-image-5310\"\/><figcaption>the carousel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The-Lily-Pond\"><\/span>The Lily Pond<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the southern edge of Rockefeller Park is the Lily Pond. This small pond always has a few ducks, and plenty of benches all around it. It is a mesmerizing feature for little kids, and another reason we love this area. Check out the picture at the beginning of this article!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Free-Art-Classes-and-Parkhouse\"><\/span>Free Art Classes and Parkhouse<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I mentioned the Park house (field house), but let me expand. During the warmer season, approximately May to October, the field house sets up little air hockey and ping pong tables. You can also borrow a ball, which is so great because it saves us having to bring one with us, and allows my soccer-obsessed dudes to kick the ball around the grass!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another awesome activity that we have participated in many times, is the free outdoor art classes that take place by the Parkhouse. These <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"classes (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/bpcparks.org\/events\/week\/\" target=\"_blank\">classes<\/a> are meant for preschoolers (ages 2-4 are the sweet spot), and take place on Thursday mornings when the weather cooperates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"862\" height=\"1150\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-art-class.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"battery park city parks art class\" class=\"wp-image-5328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-art-class.jpg 862w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-art-class-240x320.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-art-class-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/battery-park-city-art-class-655x874.jpg 655w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 862px) 100vw, 862px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Advanced-Tip-restrooms\"><\/span>Advanced Tip: restrooms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I mentioned restrooms, and I have to say this is always an important consideration when you&#8217;re toting kids around. There are two public restrooms near Rockefeller Park in Battery Park City:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>In the New Jersey Ferry Terminal on the southern end of the park, just past the grass and Lily Pond.<\/li><li>Directly across the street from the Parkhouse, in the corner of the Solaire Building, where you can enter Teardrop park.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tear-Drop-Park\"><\/span>Tear Drop Park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Teardrop Park is a really nice green area nestled in between four large residential buildings. There are two main areas and the trails wind around them. The southern section has a great slide that goes into a sand pit, as well as a smaller sand area. While the northern section has a hill that my little guys have loved going up and down. The &#8220;trails&#8221; are windy and when everything is blooming you can almost get lost in the green. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/teardrop-park-trail.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Teardrop Park\" class=\"wp-image-5325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/teardrop-park-trail.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/teardrop-park-trail-240x320.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/teardrop-park-trail-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/teardrop-park-trail-655x873.jpg 655w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Irish-Hunger-Memorial\"><\/span>Irish Hunger Memorial<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Irish Hunger Memorial sits right to the east of the lily pond. It was designed to commemorate the Great Irish Famine of the 19th century. It is beautifully designed, and when you get to the top, provides a very nice view of the area. The next green space you reach is South Cove and Wagner Park. These are nice as green spaces to lounge around or let the kids play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main reason you would come this way is either to continue to all the way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/financial-district-with-kids\/\">Battery Park<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/statue-of-liberty-and-ellis-island-with-kids\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"8881\">Statue of Liberty<\/a> cruises, or to visit one of two museums.  One museum is the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Skyscraper Museum (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/nyc-skyscraper-museum-with-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\">Skyscraper Museum<\/a>, a small museum for urban architecture fans. The other is the Museum of Jewish Heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Museum-of-Jewish-Heritage\"><\/span>Museum of Jewish Heritage<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Museum of Jewish Heritage (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mjhnyc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of Jewish Heritage<\/a> is New York City&#8217;s Holocaust memorial museum. The museum has very thorough permanent exhibitions and varying temporary exhibits. I found it extremely well done and touching, however it&#8217;s not for your little little ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/museum-jewish-heritage-wagner-park.jpg?fit=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Wagner park, as seen from the Museum of Jewish Heritage\" class=\"wp-image-5327\"\/><figcaption>Wagner Park, seen from Museum of Jewish Heritage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brookfield-Place\"><\/span>Brookfield Place<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I mentioned Brookfield Place in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/financial-district-with-kids\/\">guide to the Financial District<\/a>, but technically this shopping mall lies in Battery Park City. The shops inside are high-end (read: not for kids). However, there is a French &#8220;market&#8221; on the first floor, Le District, and a really great food court on the second floor, with many healthy options and lots of seating. Also, again, bathrooms #forthewin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Brookfield Place you can take the elevators underground, to cross West St, and connect directly into the World Trade Center, the Oculus and a plethora of subway stations inside the Fulton Center. This is where we usually go for food when we are at the parks. Here are some of our favorite options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Kaffe 1668 South (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kaffe1668southnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kaffe 1668 South<\/a>&#8211; great coffee and light meals<\/li><li>Whole Foods Market- has a large upstairs seating area<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Zucker's Bagels (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zuckersbagels.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zucker&#8217;s Bagels<\/a>&#8211; one of our favorite NY bagels<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Nish Nush (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nishnushnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nish Nush<\/a>&#8211; for falafel and similar<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Aroma Espresso Bar (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aroma.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aroma Espresso Bar<\/a>&#8211; outpost of the Israeli coffee chain, great breakfast<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Arcade bakery (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arcadebakery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arcade Bakery<\/a>&#8211; really great thin crust pizza<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Tribeca has its own park that we like a lot: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Washington Market Park (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmarketpark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Market Park<\/a>. So if you leave Battery Park City and don&#8217;t feel like walking back with your picnic lunch, you have an option right in the middle of the neighborhood with a great little playground and plenty of benches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Have you been to any of the Battery Park City parks?
