If you&#8217;re not a member, tell them it&#8217;s for your Dad who is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DON&#8217;T expect the map you just got to have details on the roads you actually need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DO get a GPS map for Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DON&#8217;T expect it to be right; you might find yourself driving off a cliff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/DSCN8520.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2247\" width=\"514\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/DSCN8520.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/DSCN8520-320x240.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>DO watch the road, and try to pick up a few words in Spanish so you can ask for directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DON&#8217;T drive at night; no need to be a dummy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DO take the toll roads (<em>cuota<\/em>) whenever possible; yes they are <em>that<\/em> much better, and they have &#8220;Green Angels&#8221; (road crew) that will pick you up if you get stuck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DON&#8217;T forget to calculate the time you will spend at the border into your driving time; it is busy there at all hours of the day and night, and if it&#8217;s not busy there is only one sleepy guard working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DO fill up gas when you&#8217;re on the outskirts of a town and there are 4 gas stations in a row; that means you are entering several hours of desert(-ed) roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DON&#8217;T freak out when stopped by a federal police officer; he might just be checking the car permit you got at the border. But keep some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/mexico-city-bribing-cops-high-society\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1239\">baksheesh<\/a> on hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DO try to enjoy it!
