a study\/routine- break and went away to San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drive from Guadalajara took about 5 hours. (It could have been 4 without long stops and traffic). Just in time for our one longer stop, we happened upon a Pemex (gas station) with a perfect little patch of grass for Little N to get out and play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, it was a decent (yet expensive) toll road the whole way, and other than a couple missed turn offs due to late signs we made it without a hitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our timing was a bit off with Friday night festivities closing off some of the one-way cobble stone streets. Without a map of the town it took us quite a while to navigate towards our hotel, but we made it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We couldn&#8217;t go to bed without seeing something, so we had a late dinner keeping Little N up way past his bedtime. We enjoyed the empty streets as we got an overview of the historical center and ended up in El Jard\u00edn, the central plaza.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had a nice breakfast on the plaza and then armed with a tourist map, set off to explore the town, starting with the main cathedral La Parroquia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"666\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-de-allende-cathedral.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-de-allende-cathedral.jpg 666w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-de-allende-cathedral-213x320.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px\" \/><figcaption>La Parroquia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Casa-de-Allende\"><\/span><strong>Casa de Allende<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our second stop was the Casa de Allende which houses the Museo Hist\u00f3rico de San Miguel de Allende. The first floor explained the history of the town, from a town in the silver mining region to an important stop in Mexico&#8217;s revolution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second story had replicated rooms of Ignacio Allende&#8217;s home, one of the fathers of the revolution and eponym of the town that was originally called San Miguel el Grande. From there we zig-zaged through the streets seeing multiple churches and landmarks of various importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Templo del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri<\/li><li>Plaza Civica<\/li><li>Templo de San Francisco<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Paseo-el-Chorro\"><\/span><strong>Paseo el Chorro<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We had a mid-morning snack of some churros in front of the Jardin de San Francisco. All in all, the culinary scene in San Miguel is nothing special.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just about every place is ok and adequate for gringo standards, but we didn&#8217;t hear of anything that was extraordinary. So we were pleasantly surprised to happen upon some great food. Here are some places we recommend:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Restaurants-in-San-Miguel-de-Allende\"><\/span>Restaurants in San Miguel de Allende<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rincon de Don Tomas<\/strong>&#8211; good standard Mexican breakfast, located on the main plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>El Correo Restaurant<\/strong>&#8211; fabulous breakfast in a nice location, located on El Correo 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cafeteria at Jardin Bot\u00e1nico El Charco<\/strong>&#8211; the best meal we had in San Miguel, they make their own fresh baked bread for the sandwiches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-restaurant.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-restaurant.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-restaurant-320x213.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-restaurant-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/san-miguel-restaurant-800x533.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Shopping-in-San-Miguel-de-Allende\"><\/span><strong>Shopping in San Miguel de Allende<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Full of energy, we devoted a little time to shopping for handicrafts. We checked out a few of the more refined shops and then headed to the Mercado Artisanal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True to its name, there were lots of options. After surveying our options and making a few purchases, it was time to pack up our things and start heading out of town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our last stop in San Miguel proper was at the Instituto Allende, a fine arts school. We took a look around the adorned building and admired the view of the downtown from its outdoor balcony. For sure there are more options around town but we were happy with this choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Hotel Suites Dali (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.suitesdali.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hotel Suites Dali<\/a>&#8211; a newish hotel located in the central part of town. It was very clean, had wifi and cable television. These are more specifically for babies, as I can&#8217;t see any problem with taking older children to this very quaint town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Take-a-Baby-Carrier\"><\/span>Take a Baby Carrier!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We walked the town, touring the landmarks, with Baby Boy in the<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Qw3opi\"> Ergo Carrier<\/a>. The kid was a trooper, and even though it got a little hot for him on M&#8217;s back. But he didn&#8217;t complain and let us see the sights almost at our old (childless) pace! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I should note, that the cobblestone streets meant that <strong>we didn&#8217;t even take the stroller out of the trunk<\/strong> the whole weekend; it just wasn&#8217;t practical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-RkN35Sfg-Qk\/T10K5DitJOI\/AAAAAAAAEuo\/EvNTSUcoQiQ\/s400\/IMG_3058.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"641\"\/><figcaption>at El Jardin, the main plaza<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2-Baby-as-a-Buffer\"><\/span>2- Baby as a Buffer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>M was happy to have a &#8220;buffer&#8221; at the museum so that he could just sit around and not feel guilty. I was happy to be able to read through the descriptions, so it all worked out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall baby loved our outdoor oriented activities. We climbed up a pathway to see the viewpoint, enjoyed the local park that was less than optimally shaded, and loved the botanical garden outside town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gringo retirees that lived there loved to &#8220;chat&#8221; with Baby Boy, and I was pleasantly surprised that <strong>all the restaurants we went to had high chairs<\/strong> for him! This meant we could enjoy our meals. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atinytrip.com\/solids-so-far-baby-led-weaning-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"got to try (opens in a new tab)\">got to try<\/a> frijoles and rice and bread along with some fresh veggies and it was a big success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-ABWLzEVXj3w\/T10LEqW65QI\/AAAAAAAAEyI\/Igfxq1YkX-w\/s400\/IMG_3159.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\"\/><figcaption>appetizer of puffs until the food came<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3-Consider-your-accommodations\"><\/span>3- Consider your accommodations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our only mis-managed aspect was that <strong>the hotel didn&#8217;t have a bathtub<\/strong>. One night he showered with me, and that was a slippery mess. The second night we bathed the kiddo in the sink and he made sure that all the water ended up on the floor. Oh well.
