Gordon Beach in Tel-Aviv

In these days of self-quarantine, I thought it would be nice to post some nice escapist images. Thankfully, I have loads of tiny trips to share from last summer that have yet to make their debut. Let’s bring ourselves to a place where we can smell the ocean breeze, the salt in the air and the sun on our backs.

Gordon Beach is one of the classic Tel-Aviv beaches. Right in the heart of central Tel-Aviv, you take a few steps off HaYarkon Street and are transported to a beachy resort feel. This beach is located right beneath the Renaissance Tel Aviv Hotel, walk down the steps or the handicap accessible ramp to the boardwalk.

Highlights of Gordon Beach

Gordon beach features the typical fine sand of Tel-Aviv. The water is a beautiful aquamarine color, and lifeguard stations are well staffed during the warm seasons.

There are two main inlets for bathing. The north side is perfect for learning to surf, and indeed you will see kids surfing lessons going on throughout the summer. Immediately south of it, the water is calmer- perfect for swimming with just a bit of waves for interest.

On the north side, you will also find a plethora of volleyball nets, and just before Hilton beach, is the Gordon Pool and marina.

Of course, not to be forgotten, much of the appeal of Gordon beach is its location, smack dab in the middle of Tel-Aviv. When you have enjoyed your day at the beach, head up Gordon Street straight back into the city with any amenities you may desire. Speaking of which, the beach has several of its own features.

Amenities at Gordon Beach

Like many Tel-Aviv beaches, it is easy to access everything you might need for a beach visit. There are outdoor showers, foot washing stations, and public restrooms.

Gordon beach also has a restaurant with tables right on the sand, and a little kiosk where you can buy snacks and beach toys you may have forgotten to bring.

You will also find vending machines where you can prepay for lounging chairs and umbrellas!

One more super cool amenity, this free “beach library”. Based on an honor system, you can borrow some books to read as you lounge at the beach.

Have you been to the beach in Tel-Aviv? Which is your favorite beach?
