99 cent Travel Experience

One of the best ways to get to know a new country is through its food. Generally speaking, we try to stick to local fare while we are traveling, because you can always get Micky D’s fries at home.

For those on a budget, however, going out to eat three meals a day for the duration of travel might be a little on the pricey side. So how do you still get that “ooo-this-is-something-I’ve-never-tried” experience?

The Grocery Store: almost every place has at least a mini-mart. Go in, walk around and you are bound to find something you’ve never seen or tried before (unless you are Anthony Bordain. maybe). And when you doubt yourself and think that you might not like it, tell yourself: It’s an Experience. And spend that 99 cents and try it out. Because even if you don’t like it, it was a lot less than that museum the guidebook conned you into going to, and you didn’t like that either!

That’s how we discovered the oh-so-delicious-when-fried Jackfruit! Yum!

What kooky foods have you tried while abroad? Any other ideas for foodies on a budget?
